Wow, Ghosts blew my mind...

Nine Inch Nails: Ghosts I-IV (2008)

This album (albums?) is so much rolled into one... I really can't even fully describe it, there's just too much to it. It is all acoustic, so those that don't like that should be warned. That being said it's just amazing. It's got so much mood and emotion. Each track is unique, each has it's own tone. I couldn't pick a favourite if I tried.

I cheated and downloaded the whole thing with bit-torrent, but I will buy the CD set as soon as I can. Totally worth $10 (and much more, I'd argue). Hell, I'm considering going for the $75 set with the fancy covers and included blu-ray.

Mad props to Trent for giving everyone reasonable choices... if only the music industry as a whole would hurry up and follow his example (no doubt that more and more artists will eventually do the same). That's all for now, must go back to listening! Wait, I never stopped :P

Ghosts is amazing, especially for experimental. It's better than some of the stuff bands have worked on for months.
And I love that they released it themselves to torrent sites for people to download -- a band like NIN embracing torrent could do a lot for changing the industry.

Yes, I agree that this is certainly very good work for being "experimental". I think the industry as a whole needs to listen up and learn from this. I imagine it would be tough for smaller artists and groups to make much money off of something like this, just look at Saul Williams... less than 20% of the downloaders chose to pay the $5 for his first album but that's because he's unknown. Big names however can stand to make a lot of money with this new business model. Trent offered 5 choices for every type of consumer: the hardcore fans, the casual fans, and the first-time listener or someone just wanting to check it out, and it worked. He sold all 2500 copies of the $300 super-deluxe edition in a matter of hours. That's $750,000 right there. I'm just waiting to hear the rest of the stats, and hopefully more artists take notice and decide to go the same route. This is how the business should work.
